Jean-Michel Gathy founded his own firm Denniston Architects in 1983 and conceived all the designs himself. With its forward-looking, up-to-date architecture, design and application of technology, Denniston Architects has maintained a leading position in the market. All construction projects are planned at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, which employs 125 people, or at its offices in Cape Town, Belgrade and Mexico.

Born in Belgium in 1955, jean-Michel Gathy discovered his love of geography and architecture when he was young and traveling with his family. He left Belgium after completing his degree programme in 1978 and moved to Asia in 1981. He has lived in Asia most of his life since then and has lived in Malaysia for the last 22 years.

Jean-Michel Gathy is one of the best hotel designers in the world. He is the chief designer of aman group. He helped create six Aman, and is known as one of the "three masters" of aman.

Jean-Michel Gathy's recent work can also be described as prolific. He has worked on famous designs such as amanaman in New York, four seasons in Bangkok, andaz in sanya and mandarin Oriental in Bali. Jean-michel Gathy first set foot in China at the age of 26 and has come to China hundreds of times since then. He also has his own study and understanding of Chinese culture, which also explains why a Belgian designer knows more about Asian style than many Asian designers.
