The design for Project Hum is a direct extension of its farm-to-table philosophy, translating the essence of its culinary story into a tangible, physical experience. Project Hum is more than just a cafe; it is also about community, and we wanted the design to reflect that ethos.

The design is a confluence of contemporary forms meeting vernacular, rustic materials and textures. By incorporating natural, farm inspired materials such as terracotta bricks, lime and concrete plaster walls, IPS texture, and touches of oak wood, the space evokes a warm, organic charm that reflects the journey from farm to plate.

The design embraces the concept of order within chaos, thoughtfully zoning the space to reflect the natural flow of customers and service. With a tight linear site connecting the entrance to a lovely backyard, zoning and planning were crucial in creating a seamless journey through the space.

Drawing inspiration from the forms and textures of a rustic farmhouse, the design offers a dynamic experience akin to walking through a cozy one-room dwelling. Guests transition from a verandah-like entry to the vibrant live kitchen and dining area, pass through a communal work table, and finally arrive at the sunlit backyard.

This journey reflects the blend of rough and smooth materials and forms, creating an inviting, home-like atmosphere. Terracotta flooring seamlessly transitions into the live kitchen counter, further enhancing the cohesive flow of the space.

Different spaces in the cafe cater to a variety of experiences, fostering a sense of community while offering flexibility. From the quick pick-up coffee and takeaway window to the relaxed seating opposite the live kitchen where guests can enjoy the theatrics of food preparation, each zone serves a unique purpose.

For those who thrive in a collaborative work environment, the 'work from Hum' community table is set against a wall of lush greenery, inspiring productivity and creativity. The backyard, bathed in sunlight, offers a tranquil setting for those seeking a leisurely dining experience surrounded by nature.

The amphitheatre in the backyard doubles as a versatile space for small gatherings, events, and workshops, reinforcing the informal, relaxed vibe of the cafe. This multi-faceted design reflects the ethos of the 'hum' community, providing a space where everyone can feel at home, connect, and grow.
