Moore House

Interiors Houses USA 2022-03-19

Moore House is located in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles and was built in 1965 by American architect Craig Ellwood. This is an excellent example of modernist residential architecture: a single-storey building with panoramic Windows and a simple interior design that cleverly blends in with the natural environment. The new owners, a young couple, commissioned Woods + Dangaran to renovate the building.

First, the architects restored the building's facade: they replaced the glass walls, doors and Windows, restored the wooden elements, and refurbished the interior. In the tradition of modernist interiors, the authors covered floors and some walls with honey teak, and used cream-textured stucco for ceilings. The furniture includes contemporary pieces designed with classic and retro reversions that emphasize the house's history.

The architects managed to create a harmonious, timeless interior, despite the environment, that does not resemble a historical installation. It is a comfortable living space, and the original inhabitants of the house will be as comfortable as people are today. Opposite the fireplace in the living room is a spacious brandy-colored leather Arflex sofa, alongside a marble table by Woods + Dangaran and armchairs by Phillip Malouin. The dining room is decorated with a vintage lamp, a Rummler oak table and chairs by Danish brand Overgaard & Dyrman.
