Mas Pepito was born the way truly meaningful ideas are born: from a shared longing. We are five siblings who, after a lifetime of spending our summers in the Empordà, began searching for a place where we could live together, bring our families together, and keep alive a bond that had always existed naturally between us. As the coastline became increasingly crowded, so did our desire to find a place of our own—quiet, calm, a refuge and a gathering point. A place where family life could unfold organically.

During that process, we made a deeply symbolic decision: we gave up our family inheritance— a small fisherman’s house that our father had restored with great sensitivity and soul—because its surroundings had become too overrun. We exchanged that piece of our history for the possibility of a dream: living closer to the countryside, with space to grow together. Even today, we’re still amazed by what we gained in return.

In 2007, we discovered an old farm that had been abandoned for years: a simple structure surrounded by the pigsties of what had once been a pig farm. Despite its condition, we all saw in it the potential for what we were searching for. And we decided to bet everything on that dream. Many people around us thought we were crazy—giving up everything for a ruined farm lost among the fields. But that mix of intuition, excitement and an almost naïve trust was precisely what pushed us forward.

We sought out local materials—ceramics from La Bisbal, woods and pieces salvaged from demolition sites or old constructions—and reused doors, floors and elements from the masía itself. We transformed the old pigsties into porches opening onto the Empordà fields, avoiding walls that would break the views and choosing instead total integration with the landscape.

The construction team, also from the area and now practically part of the family, immediately understood our commitment to recovering traditional techniques: vaulted ceilings, limewashed walls, carpentry treated with natural oils. Together, we created an honest, close working dynamic where every idea contributed. We even reused old wooden apple crates to create flooring—because it’s what we had and because it fit the poetic spirit of recovering, adapting and reinventing.

Today, Mas Pepito is exactly what we dreamed of: a place to live together, to share and to build a future; a home that preserves the soul of the old farm and, in a way, also honours the sensitivity we inherited from our father and the sense of family our parents instilled in us. A dream come true.
