Maana Kamo Hotel

Interiors Hotels Kyoto 2021-05-14

Japanese architect Shigenori Uoya has transformed a 100-year-old townhouse in Kyoto to create a luxury new hotel Maana Kamo on top of the original residence, combining tradition with modernity. Creating a gloomy and peaceful interior environment for the new hotel.

Located in the historic Higashiyama district, Maana Kamo hotel was designed by Shigenori for Maana Homes, the owners of a series of luxury clubs tucked away in some of the old streets of Japanese cities. Maana Kamo is a guesthouse before the demolition of the townhouse. The interior is filled with quiet, atmospheric aesthetics, allowing fashion and serenity to stay there.

While the building was updated, changes pay homage to the history of the building, with broken tiles and peeling ceilings swapped out for a wave of thoughtful interiors that put the strength and beauty of the structure at the heart of the design.

Decoration is kept minimal, allowing the building and its dark interiors to breathe, with light and shadows passing through paper screen doors and cast over stripped floorboards and dark timber panelling. ‘Visually quiet’, the Maana Kamo guesthouse is a beautiful escape that transports visitors back to a simpler time. Book a stay at here.
