This 60 m² apartment near Nowy Kleparz in Kraków was designed for a close friend – painter Roman Kondratiuk. The goal was to create a comfortable living space that also works as a personal gallery, allowing the interior to complement his expressive art. Subtle contrasts in materials and colour help balance the artworks without dominating them.
The renovation completely transformed the apartment: the previous layout was simplified, unnecessary forms were removed, and the new concept is based on geometric order, natural materials, and custom-designed furniture. The layout includes a living room with kitchen, a bedroom, and a bathroom, all kept in a cohesive palette.
A Belvedere quartzite table, matching the kitchen countertops, acts as a central point of the day zone. Firek’s custom furniture is paired with selected Scandinavian pieces – a metal ceiling lamp by Jørgen Kastholm & Preben Juhl Fabricius (&Tradition) and New Works chairs. A rug from Tapis Atelier adds a distinctive black-and-white accent. Unique elements, such as a ceramic bedside lamp and a custom-shaped wall mirror, were made to order.
A long corridor linking the day and night zones features mirrored fronts that visually enlarge the space. In the bedroom, an olive arched curtain conceals a compact workspace for painting materials, accompanied by a wardrobe and a wooden shelf supported by a steel column.
The bathroom is darker and more intimate, finished with brushed Absolute Black granite and a caramel ceiling matched to the wood veneer, creating a warm, earthy atmosphere.
