Casa no Tempo has been in João Rodrigues' family for many generations. Having belonged to his grandfather, it was the elder's heartfelt wish to preserve this estate, ensuring future generations could cherish its natural splendor. Embracing this legacy, João has dedicated himself as its steward, meticulously tending to the property. Together with his family, he continually explores innovative approaches to enhance sustainable farming and land stewardship practices.

João and his family believed the residence should embody the serenity permeating the land. They enlisted their longtime friend, renowned architect Manuel Aires Mateus, to lead the restoration. Their fundamental vision was to create perfect harmony between the home, working farm and native woodlands - a living organism where built and natural environments breathe in unison.

The main goal for the house was to orient it in such a way that it was held within the landscape. Large windows and arching doorways allow light to pour in and the eyes to drift to the horizon. All the floors are paved with local clay blocks which can be heated in the Winter.

At Casa no Tempo, time is spent in the forest and fields. With expansive skies, one thousand acres of cork trees, pastures, wild rolling fields, two dams, five ponds, streams and brooks, the outside beckons guests to walk, picnic, cycle, or swim.

The interior lounge is a luminous area with white sofas and a beautiful corner fireplace. There are four spacious bedroom suites with a mixture of modern bedding and local wooden furniture. Other amenities include walk-in showers and toilets with ultimate finishing over handmade tiles.

Casa no Tempo is 1 hour south of Lisbon, in Montemor o Novo - Alentejo - and a short drive to Évora - a UNESCO world heritage site. Alentejo, often known as the unspoilt Portugal is well known for its unique landscape of vast golden plains. Olive and oak trees provide the only shade. When the sun sets there is a sky full of stars, where you will finally understand why we have called it “Timeless Home”.

Also home to Herdade no Tempo, our biodynamic organic farm, cows, sheep, goats, ducks, peacocks, and chickens roam. During your stay on the property, you are free to harvest eggs from the chicken yard, as well as enjoy our farm products, such as honey, goat cheese, organic meat, olive oil, cork, jams and vegetables.
