Casa na Terra was born out of friendship and the love for the land. There are certain moments in life which we cherish, like sharing a long leisurely afternoon with dear friends. It is easy and joyful, a beautiful expression of life well lived. Sometimes what unfolds from the experience is synchronicity and can change the trajectory of life. This is the story of Casa na Terra.

The project was meticulously designed by architect Manuel Aires Mateus, a close friend of founder João Rodrigues, and was honored with Arch Daily's Building of the Year award in 2020.

The story began years ago when close friends invited founder João Rodrigues for lunch at their lakeside home in Monsaraz—a breathtaking property in the heart of Alentejo. They instantly fell in love with the atmosphere: rolling hills of tall swaying grasses, the earthy fragrance of the soil, and the glimmering distant lake that seemed like paradise.

Soon after, the friends asked João Rodrigues if he would take stewardship of the property while preserving the core philosophy of "Silent Living"—the very essence embodied in all residences of the brand. He gladly accepted this precious gift.

The house and surrounding land is rugged, yet peaceful. Embracing it as a Silent Living home was effortless, as it aligned with everything we hold dear: a profound respect of nature, family, connection to place, and exquisite elemental construction.

The house is a spectacular conversation between architecture and earth. It deeply honors its surroundings, finding shelter, yet emerging from the land itself. Amid an expansive landscape, the sole visible elements of the building are the patios and a dome, which visually and structurally connect all the rooms. It is as if the entire place merges with the existing topography, cast from the ground itself.

As in all Silent Living properties, guests are welcomed like old friends. Homemade Portuguese meals are prepared and an exceptional team is standing by, to ensure your stay is enjoyable and memorable.
