Strandvagen Home

Swedish furniture designer and interior designer Louise Liljencrantz has an unrivalled eye for detail and a strong appreciation for modernist design that embodies Scandinavian design styles. Strandvagen is an elegant apartment that features historical stories. The complex and detailed design approach showcases the designer's ever-expanding portfolio, which is a celebration of materials and tradition.

This 250-square-meter apartment is located in a prime location in the center of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, overlooking the sea and the magnificent Royal Theatre. The building dates back to an era of wealth and elegance in the 20th century and can be captured by Liljencrantz's unique modern lens. Liljencrantz design company felt that it had discovered its potential and used the expertise of the studio to transform it into a family of four.

A new spatial flow is put into the complete renovation project, which is defined around time and private space. The curved, sculptural, and simple timber entrance, inspired by Japanese architecture, provides a pause before entering the kitchen. According to the customer's request, an oversized kitchen became the core of the family house, so a large amount of black walnut was used. These tones contrast with the limestone table top, custom chocolate leather benches, and glass and brass pendants. The same dark herringbone oak flooring adds a sense of complexity and European aesthetics to the whole, while also setting the tone for the rest of the house.

The kitchen is directly connected to the family living room, the private study is on one side, and the master bedroom is on the other side. The children’s area is also connected to the kitchen and includes two bedrooms and its own bathroom. The living room is spacious and rich in texture, a true celebration of the history of the building. The original large bay window and ornate stone fireplace ensure a connection with the history of the apartment. Plenty of natural light penetrates, highlighting the iconic mid-century modern furniture, and harmoniously blending more modern additions.

The master bedroom is equipped with a walk-in closet. Thanks to the clever reforms in volume and color, it makes people feel indulgent and spacious. Dark wood panelling from floor to ceiling ensures consistency, and the infusion of rust red, heavy overhangs, tactile fabric wallpapers and off-white upholstered chairs create a layered Nordic resort space.
