Driven by a passion for ambiance and narrative, Principal and Creative Kim Lambert approaches design with a refined sense of restraint. Her spaces are poetic—crafted with intention and choreographed for harmony. “I’m interested in how material, texture, light, and volume interact—and how those elements resonate with the people who inhabit a space,” she says. “Ornamentation is used with care: enough to heighten the experience, but never to overwhelm it. A restrained composition allows each detail to hold its place. Less is more when every element has meaning.”
The home belongs to a couple in their 40’s with five sons under the age of 17 —a lively household. He works in finance, while she, a former model, now turns her creative energy toward making art of her own. “The brief to design their home called for an entirely new narrative,” Kim Lambert remembers. “They were open, curious, and eager to explore the interplay of hard and soft elements—a language I love to speak.”
Set in Hoggs Hollow—one of Toronto’s most refined enclaves—the property is surrounded by winding rivers and mature trees, where natural forms and architectural quietude coexist in harmony.
Built approximately 15 years ago by the previous owners, the home sits on a generous stretch of land that opens onto a river curling gently through the neighbourhood—inviting a deep sense of calm and place.
Kim Lambert embraced a consistent palette of soft white throughout the home, applying the same hue to walls, ceilings, and trim to allow shadow and light to play naturally across the architectural details. In the dining room—situated at the heart of the home— the designer chose a darker tone to introduce contrast and foster a sense of intimacy. Kim Lambert blended rustic and refined finishes with nuanced textures throughout the home, enhanced by thoughtfully chosen wall coverings. These materials layer to form a language that feels both grounded and expressive. Matte driftwood-stained floors and bespoke rugs quiet the base, allowing individual elements to breathe within the open plan.
In the kitchen, hand-selected Calacatta marble slabs with striking veins take center stage, complemented by hot-rolled steel featured on the hood and the family room fireplace. The living room fireplace is wrapped in textured stone plaster, while the primary bedroom fireplace—featured on a newly added wall between the main bedroom and the snore room—is finished with Venetian plaster, a treatment also used on the wine room walls.
