When Jennifer and Alec Litowitz first visited the town of Big Sky, Montana, in 2019, they were captivated by the stunning landscape. Standing at the top of Andesite Mountain, nearly 9,000 feet above sea level, you can overlook the surrounding rolling mountains, feel the vastness of heaven and earth and the ever-changing weather. Although the 10,000-square-foot limestone mansion was still under construction, the couple didn't hesitate to buy it for its unbeatable natural views. They wanted to turn the house into what they had in mind for their winter vacation, a "French boho ski chalet."
The living room is not only a place for rest, but also a place for interaction between people, people and nature. The flexible opening and closing of the sliding glass doors allow the interior and exterior to be freely connected, and the exterior covered terrace has a seating and dining area to meet the needs of the family for daily gatherings and socializing, while further enhancing the communication and dialogue between the occupants and the environment.
The centerpiece of the restaurant is an oval table by BDDW, with leather seats by Kaare Klint and plaid backs that give off a vintage, mountainous vibe. Paul Ferrante's custom chandelier with leather tanned whip seam details is designed to pay homage to Western saddle culture. Large floor-to-ceiling Windows bring in the Lone mountain range, which rises and falls in the morning light.
The kitchen continues the warm tone of the house, with walnut cabinets and green SLATE countertops creating a calm, layered feel. Bronze and brass replace the cold stainless steel, and over time, the surface will naturally oxidize, adding the texture of age. Amuneal custom bronze stove cover, Classic Design bar stool, Piet Hein Eek chandelier, every detail is full of ingenuity and emotion.
The master bedroom is dominated by natural warm tones, earth colored fabrics, wool-textured walls and vintage wood furniture to create an elegant temperament. The Hans Wegner lounge chair is set against the brass floor lamp, and the wood grain, wool carpet and navy blue accents create a restful and perceptive sleep space.
Ski dressing rooms are a must for winter holidays, ski gear is neatly stored in red metal cabinets, benches designed by Summer Studio are easy to change gear during the day, and wool carpets ensure a warm and comfortable room. When the rise, change into snow boots, open the door, the snow mountain journey immediately set off. The walls of the bathroom are made of red Heath Ceramics, which create a jumping vitality in a calm earth tone. Custom bathroom cabinets made of walnut, vintage brass faucets and red brick walls complement each other, giving the space more personality and giving the whole house a modern feel.
This modern and charming winter vacation house is a perfect combination of natural landscape and humanities and art. It is a place that bears the common memories of family members. Everything here seems to tell the beauty of life.
