Charles Zana realized the architecture and interiors for this Paris town house. The project is structured around the stairwell and its glass roof, which echoes the 1930s. The house is closed to the street and generously opens onto the garden designed by Jacques Wirtz.
Charles Zana is an amateur architect among collectible artists. After studying fine arts in Paris, Charles Zana became a certified architect and entered the field of interior design through a series of influential projects. After returning from New York in 1990, he worked in various architectural studios for nearly five years before setting up his own practice. There is now a team of 15 architects working on projects ranging from private homes and apartments to shops, renovations and exhibition Spaces.
His furnishings are incomparably modern, often picking pieces from contemporary designers such as Ettore Sottsas and Johanna Grawunder, and blending them with second-century classics such as Charlotte Perriand and Roger Tallon. He also had a passion for post-war Italian design. Italian design and manufacture are considered to be of good quality.
Zana enjoys working with artists to combine their vision of space and unique approach in one project. He believes that the realization of a project cannot be achieved without high-quality craftsmen, experienced lighting designers, and the best artwork. There is no boundary between art, architecture and design, and for Zana, the trick is to find the perfect balance. His goal was to be quiet in the decor rather than to produce a strong visual effect.
