Located in the heart of Toorak's tree-lined streets, 65 Lansell Rd was designed to balance the modern and refined architectural language with the established character of its neighbors. The design references classical architectural proportions, bringing a sense of authority and balance that sees architecture at home in the established architecture of the area. This traditional facade organization is then combined with the smallest modern details to make the materiality of the building take centre stage.

Inspired by the natural hues found in the neighbouring Yarra River, clay-colored bricks and similar grout were used as the main materials. The way the bricks are laid creates a rough texture that balances the strict formality of the design. The entrance to the building also references the Yarra, which leads people from the street to a winding road, through a landscaped garden, and then to the entrance hall.

A sense of retreat and revelation is created through the curved routes used in the building. The language is inspired by the river, which constantly reveals new vistas and Spaces as you follow the curve of the riverbank. Finally, the design allows for a series of stepped terraces along its southern boundary, enabling plants to cover most of the building's outline. This not only creates an easy relationship with the neighbors, but also provides an attractive planting landscape for the occupants.
