Casa Tepui

Casa Tepui, the latest piece designed by CO-LAB, sits in an existing tree canopy and the main living level is one level above ground level, providing the quality of a tree house while providing the comfort of a modern holiday rental home.

Sliding wooden Windows are built into three walls, allowing gentle breezes to flow through the space. Aromatic plants provide fresh ingredients for the kitchen and fill the space with fragrance. Banana and papaya trees are planted below the Windows of the elevated living area, allowing people to see the fruit and pick it directly from the tree's canopy.

On the ground floor, the kitchen, dining room and living room are combined in a long, narrow space that opens onto an elevated pool and terrace. On this level there is a modest home office space where the couple can relax in the pool during a break from work. On the ground floor, there are 3 en-suite bedrooms opening to a private garden and terrace.

During construction, 11 existing trees were relocated to the perimeter of the site to enhance privacy. The house is designed to take advantage of cross ventilation and the chimney effect, allowing it to breathe naturally in a tropical climate. Rainwater harvesting systems and solar panels can reduce a house's energy load.

In general, the materials used meet the durability and low maintenance requirements of tropical climates. The light-filled, breezy room is surrounded by greenery, while moving shadows adorn the walls, creating a tranquil atmosphere.
