The opportunity to reimagine the living and dining room furnishings for one of San Francisco’s iconic Stick-Eastlake Victorian row houses was a dream. Our clients were seeking an understated sophistication to match the bones of the original house and, with a baby on the way, rooms for adults and kids. Opposites give these refreshed rooms depth and soul: smooth vs. textured, light vs. dark, and ethereal vs. opaque. 

Multiple textures were layered in for added warmth, with indirect lighting fixtures that express themselves like art selected to instantly change the mood. Harmony derives from multiple neutral tones existing alongside one another. It’s always good, too, to work with natural materials that will patina over time. Oiled wood, soft leather and metal are destined to scuff and only grow richer as they age.
