Secret Room

Interiors Hotels Canada 2020-09-02

Secret Room, a surrealist bar in the basement of Palm Jumeirah Hotel in Dubai, was designed by Toronto-based studio Paolo Ferrari. Drawing inspiration from around the world, the complex design skillfully combines an alternative time and space into a real setting, in keeping with dubai's unique and diverse cultural background.

Dali style bars speak to the future, interior soft furnishings evoke memories of the 1960s and 1970s, and classical walls, ceilings and floors take people further before the 20th century. The design inspiration of these elements mainly comes from a scene at the end of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey: The French bedroom of Louis XIV. That scene continues to impress Paolo Ferrari, the studio's design director. Because there is incredible tension in the interior space, but at the same time it doesn't feel too complicated. The backroom bar achieves a similar effect and clearly pays homage to retro futurism.

Mirrors run throughout the bar, visually expanding the enclosed space. After entering the bathroom door, guests are placed in the most experimental area of the chamber. From the dimly lit corridor to the vast multi-dimensional space, to complete a surreal experience, just like the vision into deep outer space, this inspiration also comes from Stanley Kubrick. The lure of an underground den brings an unprecedented sense of art to those who approach it. The Secret Room bar is a project with unlimited potential, reminding us all that a transcendent nightclub can inspire you to enter another self.
